Cosmetic Tattoos

FAQ’S

Who CAN NOT get a cosmetic tattoo?

Pregnant women, people below the age of 18, has HIV AIDS (risk of spreading infection) CAN NOT get a cosmetic tattoo. You may also not get one if you are on any blood thinners or Accutane. If you are on Accutane, you will need to be off it for a minimum 1 year unless you are able to provide a medical certificate from you doctor, stating you are cleared to have the procedure.  If you keloid scar it is also not suitable.

Those with any of the following are unable to have cosmetic tattoo treatments.

• Open lesions in the treatment area
• Active Infection
• Uncontrolled diabetes
• Retin A - cease two weeks prior to reduce excessive peeling
• Roaccutane/Isotrentinoin in the last 6 months
• Blood infections
• Skin Cancer in the treatment area
• Undergoing chemotherapy or immune therapy
• Sun baking and solariums are to avoided the entire duration of the treatment regime

How do you get the right shape?

Measuring techniques are used to obtain equal symmetry in your brows before tattooing will commence. Once the brow shape is mapped out and drawn up you will get to see the shape and alter anything you’d like before starting.

What if I don’t like the shape?

You will get a chance before the tattooing starts to have your input and alter the pencil drawn shape to your desired result. Make sure you are 100% happy with the drawing before we tattoo as changing the shape down the track once already tattooed may not be possible without removal which will be at your expense and not JY Brows & Beauty.

How do you know what colour to use?

I match the pigment to your brow hair colour which we will discuss during the appointment and undertone of colour is matched accordingly to what level you are on the fitzpatrick chart.

How long does the tattoo last?

Everyone’s skin takes to the pigment differently and results may differ for everyone, however the average person will have 1 – 2 years in between touch ups. Some things that may prolong your results are putting sunscreen on when in the sun and avoiding facial products that are made to strip or peel the skin.

A cosmetic tattoo is a low maintenance procedure, not a no maintenance procedure so to maintain you should come for touch ups when required.

Do you touch up other salon’s work?

If you have previously had your brows tattooed with another salon, you are required to book in for a consult prior to booking your initial appointment as not all previous tattoos are able to be covered/corrected.  Should you attend an appointment with another salon’s work without booking a consult first and we are unable to proceed, you will forfeit your deposit.  All client’s requiring a touch up of another salon’s work will be charged as a new client, touch up pricing is for existing clients only.

Initial touch ups

Your tattoo touch up is required to be completed 6 to 8 weeks after your initial appointment.  Should you be unable to do this and you exceed the 12 week mark (from the date of your initial appointment), the price of your touch up appointment will be increased from $175 to $200. Please note there are no exceptions.

CONSULTATIONS

The first part of the process is a consultation. This is normally done as part of your initial treatment, but can be done separately if you prefer. Separate consultation fee is $50 this fee is fully redeemable against the price of your tattoo if you decide to proceed on the day of your appointment. I will talk with you in detail about the look you are trying to achieve and what we might recommend to you. Once we have an idea of the look you are aiming for, we draw the brows on with a makeup pencil. These can be drawn on and adjusted as many times as necessary!

We will never begin the tattoo process until you are 100% happy with what they are going to look like.

PRE + POST TREATMENT CARE

PRE TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

  • Do not tweeze, thread, wax, tint, or perform electrolysis 1 week prior to the procedure.

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 hours prior to your procedure.

  • Do not consume coffee or other caffeine products 24 hours prior.

  • Do not schedule any facials, microdermabrasion, microneedling, peels or laser treatments for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Do not have cosmetic injections on the forehead for at least two weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Please avoid any type of blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your procedure unless is unsafe to do so for your health. Please ask your doctor before stopping these types of medications. Such as: Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Advil, Niacin, Voltaren or Indocid. As well as prenatal vitamins, Vitamin E or nutritional shakes.

  • Avoid sun tanning or tanning beds for 2 weeks prior to procedure. If you show up to your appointment with a sunburn you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Your cosmetic tattoo's healing process determines its longevity, so adhering to aftercare is crucial. Follow these instructions for best results:

  • Apply a small amount of provided aftercare cream twice daily for 7 days. Avoid using any other products.

  • Do not wet tattooed brows for 7 days following your appointment, this includes but is not limited to sweat, steam, or water.

  • Refrain from swimming for 10 days post-treatment.

  • Wash hands thoroughly before applying aftercare.

  • Avoid picking at the treated area to prevent colour loss.
Let scabs naturally fall off in 7-14 days; picking will negatively effect the end result.

  • Avoid makeup over the area until fully healed to prevent infection.

  • Swelling immediately post-treatment is normal and will subside. Avoid sun exposure during healing.

  • Expect the brows to be their darkest & most uneven on days 2-3, softening by 20-40% when healed.

  • Patchiness or lightness post-healing is normal, some may need a 3rd appointment for desired results.

Brows will fully heal in approximately 4 weeks, possibly appearing translucent in weeks 2-3, with pigment re-emerging in weeks 3-4.
